BoatingThe Reno/Sparks area is a perfect location for every kind of boating activity. Whether sail boarding on nearby Washoe Lake, cruising Lake Tahoe, or water skiing in Pyramid Lake, if you like boating you will love Northern Nevada.
Fishing With the numerous lakes and streams around the area, fishing in Northern Nevada has always been popular. Whether you are searching for brook trout in the small streams of the Sierra or cutthroat trout in Pyramid Lake, there are fishing opportunities for every enthusiast.
Hiking/Mountain Biking
The Sierra Nevada Mountains provide the perfect setting for hiking or biking. Numerous trails are accessible to anybody looking to get away from it all. Trail maps can be found at local sports shops and camping permits are required in some areas.
Hunting
There are numerous hunting activities in the state of Nevada including duck, deer, and bighorn sheep. License information can be found at any of the local hunting store or by calling the Department of Wildlife at (775) 688-1500.
Golf Courses
Reno/Sparks currently has 15 golf courses, with another twenty within sixty miles. Both Northgate and Wildcreek have special rates for Washoe County residents. Home to Montreux and host to Reno-Tahoe Open.
Parks
There are 21 parks located in the area. Rancho San Rafael (Reno) and Don Mellow (Sparks) have numerous softball fields for year-round leagues.

Skiing
Lake Tahoe, approximately 30 minutes from Reno/Sparks, is known world-wide for its skiing, snow mobiling and sleighing opportunities. Fifteen major resorts, including Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Heavenly Valley offer skiing for the beginner to the most advanced. Ski eqipment rentals are offered at a number of local ski/sports shops.
