General Information

You are required to obtain Nevada license plates as soon as you take a job, buy property, register your children in public school or within 30 days of establishing residency. Prior to registration you must have a smog emissions control check certificate if your vehicle is a 1968 model or newer. When going to the Department of Motor Vehicles, you should have your previous registration card and license plates, along with proof of insurance.

Driver's license examinations and registration are scheduled at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Reno. If you have a valid driver's license from another state, you will only need to take an eye examination and written test within 30 days for your Nevada license.
